Time Line of Manayunk:
1818 : The Manayunk Canal opened.
1823 : Richard Levering bought the land from William Penn
1831 : Saint John's the baptist church was built for the Irish Catholic population.
1849 : Saint Mary's was built for the German population
1850 : Due to many flooding the canal had to be completely rebuilt.
1854 : Thanks to the Canal being rebuilt the citizens of Manayunk were able to expand on the good being transported.
1859 : Most active year of the canal because of the new new factories.
1860: During of the Civil War, Manayunk emerges to a major textile center.
1872 : The first Manayunk census was taken. Counting 147 families, 550 males, 548 females, 282 boys (under 18) and 266 girls.
1888 : Saint Josephat's was built for the Polish population.
1891: Saint Lucy's church was built for the Italian population.
1928 : The population started to rise due to the need for workers. There was a great number of new factories and industries.
1985 : The very first Bike Race.
